Product license holding in Indonesia

Foreign brands cannot hold BPOM licenses directly — Indonesian regulation requires that every BPOM registration be held by a local legal entity. PT. Singa Biru Grup holds your license on your behalf, so your right to sell in Indonesia belongs to you and your brand, not to whichever distributor happened to file the paperwork first.

This matters more than most brands realize until it becomes a problem. A BPOM registration is tied to the entity named as its holder. If that entity is your distributor, the license — and with it, your legal right to distribute in Indonesia — sits in their name, not yours. As a neutral, dedicated license holder, we keep that asset separate from any single commercial relationship.

Why not let your distributor hold the license?

It is common practice — and it is a trap. When a distributor registers and holds your BPOM license, switching distributors later means starting over. You cannot simply move the same registration to a new partner; the license stays with the entity it was issued to. Brands that try to leave an underperforming distributor often discover their registration effectively leaves with them, forcing a fresh registration cycle — months of lost sales, a repeat of the government fee, and an open window for competitors to take the shelf space.

This creates a switching-cost trap: the longer you stay with a distributor purely because they hold your license, the more leverage they have over commercial terms, because you cannot leave. Separating license ownership from distribution removes that leverage entirely. You keep the right to sell in Indonesia; distribution becomes a commercial decision you can revisit whenever it makes sense.

How it works

  1. 1. Agreement. We sign a license-holding agreement covering the brand, products, and terms, so the responsibilities on both sides are clear from the start.
  2. 2. We register or transfer. If the product isn't registered yet, we prepare and submit the BPOM registration under our entity. If it already has an active registration held elsewhere, we manage the transfer of the license to PT. Singa Biru Grup.
  3. 3. We hold and monitor. Once the license is with us, we track it against the live BPOM registry — daily — watching for status changes and upcoming expiries, and we handle renewals before they lapse.
  4. 4. You sell through any distributor. With the license held independently, you are free to work with one distributor, several, or switch between them, without touching the underlying registration.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't my company hold a BPOM license directly?

BPOM registrations must be held by an Indonesian legal entity. A foreign company without a local presence cannot be the registered license holder, so a local entity — either your own PT PMA or a service provider like PT. Singa Biru Grup — has to hold the license on the registration.

What happens if my distributor holds the license instead?

The license is registered in the distributor's name, not yours. If the relationship ends, the registration stays with them: you lose the right to sell under that BPOM number until you re-register, which means new fees, new review time, and a market gap your competitors can fill.

Can I switch distributors if PT. Singa Biru Grup holds the license?

Yes. Because the license sits with us, not with any single distributor, you can change distribution partners, add new ones, or sell through multiple channels without having to re-register the product.

Do you also handle the BPOM registration itself?

Yes. We can register new products for you at $350 per SKU plus the official BPOM government fee, or we can take over holding of a license you already have registered elsewhere.

How do you monitor my license once you hold it?

We track every license we hold against the live BPOM registry, which we sync daily. You get advance alerts on approaching expiries, status changes, and anything else that shows up against your registration, and we handle the renewal filing before the license lapses.

What does license holding cost?

License holding is $5,000 per year per brand. Registering a new product to be held under that brand starts at $350 per SKU, plus the official BPOM government fee for that category.
